PRIMARY BELT CLEANER
DESCRIPTION :
PRIMARY CLEANER, ALSO KNOWN AS THE PRE-CLEANER, IS MOUNTED ON THE HEAD PULLEY'S FACE SLIGHTLY BELOW THE BELT'S MATERIAL DISCHARGE'S TRAJECTORY. THIS ARRANGEMENT MINIMIZES ANY OVERLOADING OF THE DRIBBLE CHUTE OR OTHER RECLAMATION SYSTEM BY ALLOWING THE MATERIAL TAKEN FROM THE BELT TO FALL IN WITH THE MAIN CARGO AS IT DEPARTS THE BELT.
PRE-CLEANERS OFTEN USE DURABLE ELASTOMER, SUCH AS URETHANE OR RUBBER, RATHER THAN METAL BLADES TO REDUCE THE RISK TO THE CLEANER, SPLICE, AND BELT FROM EVEN A LIGHTLY TENSIONED BLADE KEPT IN A POSITIVE-RAKE POSITION. DUE TO THE SYSTEM'S ABILITY TO BOUNCE THE BLADE AWAY FROM THE BELT WHEN AN IMPEDIMENT LIKE A MECHANICAL SPLICE PASSES PAST THE CLEANING EDGE THANKS TO THE LOW BLADE-TO-BLADE PRESSURE, THE CHANCE OF DAMAGE IS DECREASED. BELT WEAR IS DECREASED AND BLADE LIFE IS INCREASED WITH PROPERLY APPLIED CLEANING PRESSURE. MATERIAL CAN SLIDE BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE BELT WITH INSUFFICIENT PRESSURE, BECOMING CAUGHT AND CAUSING WEAR TO BOTH. AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE SPEEDS UP WEAR AND MAKES THE BELT MOVE WITH MORE ENERGY.
