ASBESTOS CLOTH
DESCRIPTION :
IN THE PAST, ASBESTOS FIBERS WERE WOVEN INTO FABRIC TO CREATE TEXTILE PRODUCTS THAT WERE HEAT- AND CORROSION-RESISTANT. A FEW OF THESE WERE CLOTHING, HEAT-RESISTANT BLANKETS, AND ELECTRICAL CLOTHING. THESE PRODUCTS EXPOSED WORKERS TO DISEASES, AND THEY SUCCESSFULLY SUED THE MANUFACTURERS FOR COMPENSATION.
RAW ASBESTOS CAN BE SPUN AND WOVEN INTO TEXTILE CLOTHS AND GARMENTS DUE TO THE FIBROUS NATURE OF THE MATERIAL. TEXTILES ARE NOW RESISTANT TO HIGH TEMPERATURES, FLAMES, ELECTRICAL FIRES, AND CORROSIVE SUBSTANCES AS A RESULT OF THIS. HOWEVER, THEY ARE NOT INDESTRUCTIBLE AND CAN BE TORN, CUT, OR SLICED.
A PROPER MATERIAL TO USE IN PROTECTIVE CLOTHING SUCH AS JACKETS FOR FIREFIGHTERS AND APRONS AND MITTS FOR FOUNDRY WORKERS DUE TO ASBESTOS' FIREPROOFING CAPABILITIES THE TENSILE STRENGTH OF TEXTILE PRODUCTS WAS ALSO IMPROVED BY WEAVING ASBESTOS FIBERS ALONG WITH OTHER FIBERS.
